Well, it's been 3 days since the election's been decided....I've not heard any moaning, groaning or complaining about a 'rigged' election, a 'scream' for any sort of recount, at least not from the Republican side...li'l al franken was beaten in a hotly contested race(why it was so close is beyond me....franken is a bonafide clown) and one other but that one escapes my memory now.
As far as 'mending' our Country and 'uniting' it, I've seen no evidence nor heard any coming from the left, only from Republicans, not withstanding the 10% who would have gloated anyway if McCain/Palin had won. Myself, I'm stunned, it's hard to understand that in these trying times, we as a Nation elected a virtual unknown to the highest office.....I can only pray that he'll do 'the right thing' and govern according to our Constitution but I fear that will not be the case; in that scenario we'll have to keep ever vigilant for the worst and attempt to head it off at the pass.
Conservatives need to stand by and run on conservative values, Sarah Palin did and she was hated by the left and those that were 'stuck in the mud' as it were, not willing to stand tall and vote conservative. Why is she still being vilified, yeah, they have to try destroying her completely because they FEAR she'll return for '12. Old racing saying...'run what ya brung', sure applies to what went wrong this election....had all conservatives, McCain included, run a real conservative campaign they'd have cleaned house; trouble was, they didn't. They tried 'reaching out' and showing a willingness to co-operate with the left and it's lemmings; and that my fellow Americans is like taking a butter knife to a machine gun fight.
As Conservatives, I feel we need to start at the bottom and work our way up, a 'farm system' in baseball jargon...elect real conservatives at the grassroots levels of all governments...city, county, state and in Congress...hold them to real, honest conservative values. For the immediate future it's imperative to find conservative standard bearer now! A few names that come to mind are General Petraus, Mitt Romney and yes, Sarah Palin; the fact that she had more executive experience than any of the others on the ticket is another reason the liberal MSM had to besmirch her along with her Family, all showed true class and calm under fire during the mudslinging campaign just completed. Bobby Jindal is another name to be considered along with Pawlenty....Mike Huckabee is ok, but will be looked at as an opportunist after taking a show at FNC.
Hope is still glimmering, the mid-term elections will be on us quickly and hopefully we can gain enough conservative seats in Congress to avoid a lot of damage....Supreme Courts appointments, and in effect, throttling free speech via the 'fairness doctrine' are at the forefront along with our 2nd amendment rights to keep and bear arms, which were put in place to protect us as the People from the Government.

Thank you, Driver, for another well-thought and aptly-put editorial. You listed some excellent names of people who can help rebuild the shattered Republican Party. (The GOP, over recent years, crushed itself.) Mitt Romney is my choice for the next President. Bobby Jindal another good name to consider -- maybe for VP. I like Mike Huckabee, and would like to see him in a high government slot. I don't see him as an 'opportunist.' His stint on FNC is excellent exposure. And his little rockabilly band certainly endears him to many as being one of us. As for Sarah Palin...she's a comer, but I doubt 2012. She shows good promise, but she has much yet to learn. First thing: learning that Africa is a continent, not a country!

Wasn't intentional leaving Rudy off the list, although I think he'd be more useful as Attorney General. I didn't hear Sarah refer to africa as a country but I suspect that it had to do with african-american....kinda in the same way she put the heat on chuckie gibson to be more specific about the Bush Doctrine. What better way to 'groom' a presidential candidate than have them as VP first? That's always been one thing I questioned Dick Cheney's role as VP....a presidential advisor would have been a more suitable slot and VP could have been 'groomed' to carry on after Dubya left office.

Most everyone is afraid to speak up in light of offending the far left. (I apparently don't have that problem) most were almost fanatacial about the fact Nobama won. Won what? Supreme community organizer? I have talked to a number of lefties and most of them have no idea what he is going to do for them, or at least they cannot identify what he is going to do for them. The gist of what I gathered is that they actually voted for someone who won. I think the effects of the election are beginning to show up already.
Signing on Robando as Chief of Staff who worked under Clinton is his first mistake. As Pelosi (Gasp) says, he can't go to far to the left as he will really take it on the chin, he is going to HAVE to be middle of the road so as to have a balance. Not going to make many lefties happy. He even acknowledged it would take from a minimum of 2 years up to 4 to even make an effect on this country.

I THOUGHT THE NEW VOTERS OR YOUNG VOTERS INFLUENCED BY LIBERAL COLLEGE PROFESSORS HAD MADE AN IMPACT ON NEW VOTERS; IE, GENERATION 'Y' THOSE BORN IN 1979 OR LATER. NOT SO.

S2674/HR5509 Discriminates Against Disabled Veterans

Please send the following message to your elected officials as well as candidates for office—as a disabled veteran and your voting constituent, I am most concerned with the provisions of Senator Burr's America's Wounded Warrior Act (S2674) and Representative Buyer's Nobel Warrior Act (HR 5509), which would drastically change the disability compensation system for America's veterans. These bills are loosely based on the recommendations of the President's Commission on Care for America's Wounded Warriors (Dole/Shalala Commission), but the specifics of these bills would do great harm to these veterans in the following ways:
Offset VA Disability Compensation by Social Security when the veteran ages 65.
Apply to all currently discharging veterans AND any veteran under VA's current compensation system who files a subsequent claim for additional benefits.
Once under the new system the veteran cannot return to the current system.
Protection for ratings in effect for 10 or more years would no longer apply.
Would require the VA Secretary to examine or consider:
(a) "The extent to which disability compensation may be used as an incentive to undergo treatment;"
(b) "The appropriate injuries to be covered under the new disability rating system;"
(c) "Age" as a determining factor when considering average loss of earnings capacity;
Amends the law to provide the Secretary with authority to adopt and apply a rating schedule for "specific injuries." This provision would expressly limit VA authority over the Rating Schedule and places the authority in the hands of Congress. If the Congress can not correct the Sustained Growth Rate formula of Medicare Law how can we expect the Congress to do any better with the much more complex Disability Rating Schedule?
Provides for a quality of life payment, but only for those enrolled in the "new" compensation system.
Allows or suggests; that VA "may take into account the effect on potential future earnings caused by the age of the veteran at the time a disability rating is assigned." This provision would allow VA to compensate an older veteran at a lower percentage of disability than a younger veteran for the exact same disease or injury. Is this not age discrimination?
Provides that:
(a) "As frequently as [the VA] considers it appropriate, [the VA] must reevaluate and . . . adjust the disability rating for any veteran receiving compensation."
(b) The VA "must . . . take into account any adjustments in the rating schedule that occurred since the last assignment of a rating."
(c) The frequency of reevaluations would be determined by an examining physician. This places physicians back in the rating business, allows for frequent "adjustments" to a veteran's rating based on perceived improvement and further allows reductions based on a change in the rating criteria even when no improvement in the disability is shown.
For these reasons, among others, I strongly urge you to oppose S2674/HR5509 and any other legislation which is detrimental to and/or discriminatory against this nation's veterans.
